Serial Robber in Custody 12/9

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Suspected serial robber Freddie Spruytenburg, Jr., 31, is in custody after he allegedly held up Nashville Wine & Spirits at 4556 Harding Pike last night.
West Precinct Detective Robert Peterson was in the area investigating similar cases when he responded to the robbery at 7:45 p.m. A short time later, he spotted the suspect’s white Jeep Grand Cherokee on Annex Avenue. Spruytenburg, the sole occupant in the SUV, drove off at a high rate of speed. He struck a semi-truck and a car on Charlotte Pike at Interstate 40 before officers took him into custody. No one was seriously injured. Items stolen during the robbery, including whiskey, were recovered from inside the Jeep.
Spruytenburg, of Hillsboro Road, is currently charged with one count of aggravated robbery. Additional charges are pending.
Spruytenburg is a suspect in the following hold-ups:

· Mapco at 2103 21st Avenue South on December 8.
· The Wine Shoppe at Green Hills at 2109 Abbott Martin Road on November 28.
· Carrabba’s Italian Grill at 2101 Green Hills Village Drive on November 21.
· Mellow Mushroom at 212 21st Avenue South on November 13.

In each robbery, a masked man robbed the business at gunpoint and fled in a white SUV.
Spruytenburg’s photo is being withheld pending lineups. He has previous convictions for assault, drug possession and DUI.

8:15 A.M.-1:45 p.m.

Zone 137: 85## Newsome Station Rd. Victim returned home to find his house broken into. The house was last secured at 8:15a.m. No known suspects. It does appear the back door was kicked in. Fingerprints were attempted to be lifted on several items. Several pieces of electronics and jewelry were stolen.

8a.m.-2 p.m.
Zone 131: 3## Croley Court, Victim states that she returned home at approx 2 p.m. to find her apartment door open, there were no signs of forced entry. Victim discovered missing a Sanyo 26" Flat Screen and Laptop (black in color). ID was called to the scene to attempt to lift fingerprints.

117 Zone: 1017 17th Avenue South, Jerry Duncan Promotions, two valuable autographed guitars taken from inside a closet at the location.


Theft from Motor Vehicle

137 Zone: 7221 Highway 70 S., unknown suspects broke out the rear vent window of the vehicle and gained entry, taken was a cell phone charger, Samsung radio and a Magellan GPS. fingerprints were lifted.

Zone 121, One thousand block of Summit Ave., Victim reports that while he was working outside the residence two male black's approached him with weapons in their hands and demanded his money. Victim’s wallet was taken. Suspect # 1 was m/b 25-30 yrs. 5'9" 150 lbs. black hair brown eyes and suspect # 2 was m/b 25-30 yrs. 5'10" 160 lbs. black hair brown eyes fled on 11th Ave. S.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Zone 133: 9:30 a.m., Seventy four hundred block of Sawyer Brown Rd. Victim reported that she heard a loud crash in her home and found two male white suspects in her house. The victim advised that she asked them what they were doing in her home and the suspects fled. The suspects did not take any property from the residence but did damage the back door.

Zone 127:, 10:15 a.m. Thirty eight hundred block of Abbott Martin Rd. Victim reported that she heard a loud noise while she was in the shower. Victim advised that she got out of the shower and ran in to a male Hispanic with a pony tail. He was wearing a long parka. Victim asked that suspect what he was doing in her house and he then fled the scene. The suspect had stacked several items up at the back door but it appears that nothing was taken.

Zone 123: 6:06 p.m. Thirty five hundred block of Hillsboro Rd. Victim reported that unknown suspects attempted to break in to his residence thru a back door. The rear door was damaged but entry was not made.

12/6/2009 West C-Shift, Patrol
Zone 123: 12:30a.m. Twenty seven hundred block of Bernard Circle. Officers responded to a burglary of a residence. The victim indicated she left home around 7p.m., when she returned home at 11:30p.m.she noticed her bedroom window blinds were tangled. It was discovered the window lock had been pried open and broken. The suspects (All Unknown) reach inside the window and took a Mac Book laptop that was on the table. The scene was processed for fingerprints.

12/6/2009.
Zone123: 11:40p.m., West Patrol. Twenty two hundred block of Bernard Circle. The victim indicated she left home at 10:15a.m. When the victim returned home around 10:15p.m.she noticed that her bedroom door was ajar and her Compaq laptop was gone. The victim discovered that her living room window blinds were disturbed. The window screen had also been removed from the outside. The victim did advise her balcony door was unlocked as well as the window that had been disturbed. The scene was processed for fingerprints.

Zone 127: 109 Kenner Ave.
Victim called police to report that between 4:30p.m. – 7:25p.m. her real estate business, Exit Realty, was broken into and ransacked. Officers responded and cleared the building but found no suspects. There was significant damage from the suspects rummaging through the building but it doesn't appear that anything was actually taken.

Zone 133: 3741 Annex Ave. Complainant works at the U-Haul and stated that three trucks had the catalytic converter taken off the vehicles. There are no known suspects and the time of the thefts are not known.

Zone 113: 1916 Patterson St. Suite 700. Victim stated her wallet was stolen from her purse. Victim stated she saw the suspect walking away from the area where her purse was placed. The victim went to her purse and her wallet was missing. The suspect went to the men's room where the wallet was found in the trash can. Forty dollars is missing from the wallet. A 33 year old white male Suspect was arrested by police on the scene.

Zone 125: 2000 Stonehurst Dr., Window broken out of vehicle and Xbox 360 taken. No prints found.

Zone 137: 112 Bellevue. Victim reported that he had two vehicles broken into and two GPS units were taken. Victim reported that he left both vehicles unlocked. Officer on scene attempted to lift prints.

Zone 137: 417 Westfield Dr. Victim reported that unknown suspects entered her unlocked vehicle and removed her aftermarket stereo and a CD unit.

Zone 137: 404 Sunvalley Dr. Victim reported that unknown suspects entered his truck and removed his golf clubs. Victim is unsure if he left his vehicle unlocked but there did not appear to be any forced entry.

Green Hills Village Dr., Carraba's Grill. 10:18 p.m. The bartender advised that the suspect entered the business with a yellow mask covering his face. He approached the bar with a black semi auto pistol in his hand, he demanded money. The bartender put the cash drawer on the counter. The suspect took the cash register drawer. He then fled to a white 2008 Jeep Cherokee SUV which was parked at Hillsboro High School. Suspect is a white male 5'10” tall, 180lbs, in his 20's.



Residential burglary

11/20/2009 West C-Shift, Patrol
10:50 p.m.
Burglary – One thousand block of Caldwell Av. The victims left home at 7:00p.m. The victims returned home and noticed their home had been burglarized. Items taken: Two cameras, a television, a mini laptop computer, a cell phone, backpack, and cash was taken.
At 12:53a.m. Flex officers stopped two juveniles at 11th Av. S. & Edgehill Ave. The two subjects had in their possession some of the stolen from the burglary at one thousand block of Caldwell Av. The suspects were charged with curfew violation & possession of stolen property. Detective responded to the scene as well as ID. The victim identified a backpack, computer and cash and it was returned to them.

10:00a.m.-11:45a.m.
Two hundred block of Windsor Terrace Dr. Victim reports that between 10:00a.m. & 11:45a.m her home was burglarized. The rear door was forced open. Suspect(s) stole jewelry from a chest of drawers. A television was also taken. The scene was processed for fingerprints. A white van was seen by a neighbor in the complex.

4:15 p.m.
At approximately 4:15p.m. Officers responded to the nine hundred block of Rodney Dr. on a burglary to a residence in progress. Upon arriving the officers discovered a back door glass had been shattered and entry made. Two televisions (47” plasma & 37’ LCD) were taken. Neighbors gave a description of possible suspects as three male black juveniles. The three juveniles were possibly seen in the area at the time of the incident. ID was called to process the scene for potential evidence.


11/22/2009 West A-Shift, Patrol
8 a.m.
Eighty three hundred block of Sawyer Brown Rd, Condo# F303. Victim reported that she went to church at 8a.m.; while she was gone unknown suspects pried the kitchen window and came inside. Once inside the suspect opened the front door and removed 2 TV's (1 52" and 1 32"), 2 laptop computers, DVD player, printer, silver watch, assorted jewelry and a blackberry phone. No suspect description.

Eight hundred block of Glen Ave. Unknown suspects entered the residence through a rear window, taken was a Dell computer and cash, officers dusted for fingerprints.

6 p.m.
Thirty two hundred block of West End Av., the burglary took place at approx. 6 p.m. A neighbor reported that he was home and heard glass break. He then saw a suspect enter through a side window of the victim’s home. Suspect was described as M/B, with a shaved or bald head, wearing blue jeans/blue jacket, in his mid 30’s.

Twenty five hundred block of Belmont Blvd. Victim reported that unknown suspects broke the passenger side window out of her vehicle that was parked in front of her residence and stole the Garmin GPS system out of the vehicle.

Street Robbery from Person

11/15/2009 West A-Shift, Patrol
Subject reports that he partied with some men last night at 1643 Patterson Street, and they said he owed them money. He reports they showed him a gun in a cabinet and he felt threatened. He states he gave them his money. Victim reported the incident to police. Victim was able describe and point out the suspects. Warrants were issued against suspects.


Residential Burglary

11/13/2009 West C-Shift, Patrol
At approximately midnight West Patrol officers responded to 80## Arbor Dr on a residential burglary report. The victim advised he had left home around 6:30 p.m. When the victim returned at 9:30 p.m. he noticed a back window had been busted and entry made inside his home. The following items were taken: Ruger 40 cal handgun, Ruger 357 handgun, a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun and a Taurus 38 caliber handgun.

Victim at 56## Granny White Pike, reported that unknown suspects forced open his kitchen door and stole the following items: 36" Magnavox TV, 19" Samsung TV, Sony Play station 2, Dell Computer, Apple Computer, Remington 20 gage shot gun, 22 semi auto rifle, Remington single shot rifle, Smith &Wesson semi auto pistol, Remington 12 gage shot gun, Bose CD player and a Poulan leaf blower.

11/15/2009 West A-Shift, Patrol
8## Glen Ave., victim was home and heard a knock at the door, before he could respond the suspects went to the rear of the house and began breaking out a window, the victim yelled at the suspects and the suspects fled on foot. Both suspects were M/B, 16-20, dressed in all black and one was wearing a hoodie. One M/B had his hair in braids.



Commercial Burglary

810 12th Ave. S., United Methodist Communications, business burglary, sometime during the night, unknown suspects broke out two windows of the building and took two Sony TV's, fingerprints were attempted but no prints were lifted.

1195 Wedgewood Ave., Wedgewood Towers homes. Victim reported that unknown suspects stole his prescription medication from his locked mailbox on 11/8/09. Victim reported that this has happened to him before at the same location.

* Robbery/Home Invasion * 435 Croley Dr, (suspect#1, M/W, 20's, 6'0", 195, brown hair, gray and black bandana, purple latex gloves, wearing a black hoodie; suspect #2, M/W, 20's, 5'8", 160, brown hair, blue toddler shirt over face, purple latex gloves, dressed in a gray hoodie. Two suspects forced way into victim's house. Suspect #2 put one victim on the ground in the kitchen. Suspect #1 went into another bedroom and made victims get on the floor. Suspects forced open another bedroom open and took cash, cell phone and credit card. Suspects fled on foot. Detectives, ID and K-9 responded to the scene.

* Street Robbery *
31st and Charlotte 7:38 p.m. Victim was stopped at the traffic light at 31st and Charlotte. He turned onto Charlotte Pike, the suspects rammed the victim’s vehicle from behind, attempting to carjack him. Suspects demanded victim to get out of his car. He refused and they began to shot at him. The victim was shot in the forearm. The victim drove away and flagged down officers at 28th and Jefferson. The suspects were in a maroon Chevy or Ford 4 door car. The suspects were, two B/M's with dreads locks. Both suspects were armed.

Bank Robbery, First Tennessee Bank 4014 Hillsboro Rd. 5:50 p.m. Just minutes before closing, the suspect entered the bank and approached the teller. He asked the teller for all of the money and threatened to cut the teller with the knife he was holding. The teller complied. The suspect fled on foot on Warfield away from Hillsboro Rd. The suspect is described as a W/M 6-2 170 in his 30's. He was wearing a black ski mask, gloves and puffy black coat. Aviation and K-9 responded. FBI Task Force Detective Sutherland responded. Investigation is ongoing.

* Street Robbery *
Robbery/, 7144 Cabott Dr., Today, at approximately 7:25 p.m., 2 suspects (male, blacks, teenage to early 20's, 5'8", 150 lbs, in a tan jacket, the other male black suspect with an unknown description) approached the victim, a PaPa John's Pizza delivery person, and demanded his money. The victim complied. One suspect acted as a look-out while the other took cash and car keys from the victim's pants pocket. The suspects then ran away from the location. West detectives are investigating the incident.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A tip to Crime Stoppers led to the identification of convicted robber Timothy Kelly, Jr., 23, as the man who stabbed a woman and robbed her of her purse October 27th in the Target parking lot at 26 White Bridge Road.
Kelly is already in custody on other robbery charges. He was arrested Saturday by Hermitage Precinct Officer Jimmy Gregg who spotted the suspect getaway vehicle involved in the hold-up of a man seated in a car in the 1000 block of Thompson Lane. Kelly is charged with aggravated robbery in that crime. He is also charged with robbery for snatching a woman’s purse October 25th in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 7044 Charlotte Pike. He is currently being held on $100,000 bond.
A warrant charging Kelly with aggravated robbery has been issued in the Target case.
Kelly, who is homeless, was convicted in July 2008 of robbing an 84-year-old man outside the victim’s 31st Avenue North residence. He was released on probation in January 2008 after serving one year. He violated his probation six months later for domestic assault (convicted) and was returned to jail. Kelly was released in April of this year.
In 2002, at age 16, Kelly was convicted of aggravated assault in Bledsoe County. He served four years at the now-closed Brushy Mountain Correctional Complex.
